Product Placement for Film Investment – Shameless or Good Business Sense?

March 28, 2012

You’ve seen it before, Coca Cola being drunk on a hot summer’s day. The star of the film sat in his or her gleaming white Audi TT parked up outside the local Starbucks and so-on and so-on…. Some films are meant to be advertisements with a story line and so are some TV Shows. But is product placement Shameless or Good Business Sense?

With money being so tight nowadays and budgets pretty low, it’s good to see more advertising bucks for your dollar (or pounds, euro’s etc…). With a good product aimed at your films market you could send your product into orbit with viral clips on YouTube or you could simply address your market in a new and efficient way by advertising to the right crowd of consumers.

Cars, mobile phones, gadgets, drinks and chains are the most exploited, but there is room for others. Inside scenes could include your company’s new kitchen range, the latest TV, new treats, shoes, trainers, clothes… the list goes on. Take the outside scenes and you have an even bigger list of items that can be placed; Boats, houses, shopfronts, Sports equipment and more. Online shots would also allow you to advertise websites like FaceBranch, ecommerce sites such as iBay and software from MicroHard… Possible?

Numbers for film viewings can be in the millions, even for low budget flicks made for contemporary viewings, and more, the target market can be planned to perfection. The film needs financing and you need your product placed shamelessly or not, it would still be there for everyone to see. I believe it is a good swap and new films could be produced for less with better sponsorship. Maybe it’s time to give it a try. I did…. It worked!

Easter Eggs aren’t Special

How can Easter eggs be special anymore when you can buy them for less than one pound per egg. Where had the special gift gone? Eggs, as many as possible, are expected now and not given as a suprise. Commercialism and Easter; spoilt!
